Getting to the bottom of music and reading

This study is important because it is trying to get to the bottom of the neural development of the auditory and motor networks. It is, however, building on the research from musically trained children and reading.

The study looked to test children before they had music learning or learned how to read. The researchers took this approach so they could look at the neural development prior to these two types of learning.  Neural entrainment is the capacity of the brain to naturally synchronize its brainwave frequencies with the rhythm information we are taking in from our environment, usually through our ears, eyes and touch.

This is a theory about the brain that is being researched extensively at the moment as many researchers believe it is a key way of understanding how the brain learns.

This study proposed that neural development of auditory processing may come before the motor processing. The big questions that come from this study are how might the ears teach the body to work? Do we think about the auditory environment and auditory stimuli for young children in relation to their movement?

Stay tuned for more research in this field
